The carrying and control of firearms places a significant responsibility upon both the individual Security Officer and the organisation employing that officer.
Armed personnel must understand firearm-control procedures, maintain accurate records, comply with storage and issuing requirements and act responsibly whenever a firearm forms part of an operational assignment.
Programme Overview
The Armed Guard Operations Programme develops awareness of the procedures, controls and professional responsibilities associated with firearms used within a security organisation.
The programme addresses the administrative and operational controls required from the time a firearm is stored, recorded and issued until it is returned, maintained or becomes involved in an incident.
Particular emphasis is placed upon disciplined control, accurate records, proper handling and accountability. The programme is theoretical and does not, by itself, replace statutory firearm competency, accredited practical training or any other legally required authorisation.
